Resources to Aid the Local Church
by Kenneth S. Hemphill
As I have traveled across the convention, ministers have asked what resources are available to help the local church understand and embrace the concept of the
Kingdom, and to develop a strategic plan to become a Kingdom church. There are several products that you might want to consider for your church.
EKG:
The Heartbeat of God EKG:
The Hearbeat of God is the keystone book of the Empowering Kingdom Growth initiative. In thirty brief chapters, Ken
Hemphill walks you through the history of God’s kingdom, tracing its roots and tracking its resiliency through the pages of the Old Testament and the teachings
of Christ—watching it explode in the early church and cascade into our current century—rolling, pulsating through people’s lives and revealing God’s power through
time and eternity.
With it comes the pure resolve of being focused on one thing—God’s kingdom—and discovering how this one-track mindset clarifies our calling in
life, invigorates our everyday, and deepens our relationship with God and with others.
The book will be available both at the convention and in bookstores by June. The forty-day church study material will be available for churches
by August. You can preview this material at the EKG booth this year at the convention.
Watch the EKG section on the SBC Web site for additional materials designed to assist the church in the study of the Kingdom of God. We will be
providing sermon ideas, worship outlines, and suggestions for implementation that you can download at no charge. Our desire is to see all our churches revitalized
by the Spirit of God as they studyEKG:
The Heartbeat of God.
God is seeking a people who will embody His character, embrace His mission to the nations, and obey His Word. Will you commit to be a Kingdom person?
Will you pray that your church will be a Kingdom church?

Making Change: A Transformational Guide to Christian Money Management Making Change presents the essential basics
of money management for Christians and then casts a greater added vision to the church and individuals of how our God-given financial resources can change lives
for the sake of His kingdom.
Author Ken Hemphill begins by helping readers discover the blessing of contentment rather than the gnawing curse of greed and shares helpful instructions
on debt reduction, earning, saving, and spending. He also addresses the biblical laws of giving and teaches an inspiring concept of “whole-life stewardship”
that can lead to a person’s legacy. And that’s worth more than anything money could ever buy. http://www.lifewaystores.com/lwstore/product.asp?isbn=0805444262
Leading church strategist Ken Hemphill believes the only process
that will radically transform the mission and structure of today’s community of believers is a fresh search of the Word of God applied by the Holy Spirit. Towards
that exciting goal, Eternal Impact presents a biblical study of the New Testament church, focusing on the founding
principles of the church in Matthew 16 and the birth of the church in Acts 2.
Also included are inspiring chapters on the eight key characteristics of kingdom-centered churches and discussions on leadership and giftedness
among church members.
Can we find a church that has such a deep level of community that people respond to others’ needs joyfully, spontaneously, and practically? Hemphill
takes us down an exciting path of discovery in the ongoing advance of the kingdom of God. http://www.lifewaystores.com/lwstore/product.asp?isbn=0805446605
A book about spiritual gifts is sure to address well-known
gift passages and guide you toward a greater understanding of how to find and use the strengths God has assigned to your life. Those areas are clearly discussed
then taken into a greater and more purposeful context in Your Are Gifted by respected church voice Ken Hemphill:
“The central thrust of Scripture is that spiritual gifts are graciously given by God to enable believers to participate fully in the edification
of the church and the advance of the kingdom.”
To that end, Hemphill reminds us of our capability and worthiness to join in God’s work. With diligence, he looks at the development of the New
Testament church and passages like I Thessalonians 5, I Corinthians 12-14, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4 for examples of how we must use our unique gifts to reach
all nations. There’s even a helpful section about spiritual gifts and spiritual warfare. Reflective discussion questions for each chapter are also included. http://www.lifewaystores.com/lwstore/product.asp?isbn=0805448624
Parenting with Kingdom Purpose "What
if we raise our children to gain the world but in the process they forfeit their souls?" ask the writers of Parenting with Kingdom Purpose (True Love Waits founder
Richard Ross and best-selling author Ken Hemphill).
Indeed, children are a constant reminder of God's goodness. In that light, Christian parents are called to celebrate and nurture the unique personality
traits and talents of each precious one with a gracious and eternal perspective. Yet studies indicate 70 percent of teenagers from evangelical homes will drop
out of church within two years after high school graduation. What the world has to offer will win their closer attention.
Parenting with Kingdom Purpose looks at Bible teaching and the recent National Study of Youth and Religion to shape a fresh approach to raising
children that cuts through the chaos of modern life and brings families closest to each other and the Lord. http://www.lifewaystores.com/lwstore/product.asp?isbn=080543299X

Under
Tom Elliff's able leadership we have already introduced several studies that focus on what it means to be a Kingdom-focused family. You have been privileged
to read Tom's column concerning the family in this periodical. While at the convention you should visit the Kingdom Family booth.
Adrian Rogers's
material on Kingdom authority, The
Incredible Power of Kingdom Authority is a six-week study that will help church members to understand the authority available to them to accomplish
Kingdom activity. This should help to overcome the apathy and fear that often paralyze the church.
The six-week study based on The
Prayer of Jesus will help church members to understand the significance of prayer as it relates to advancing the Kingdom on earth. It will also
sensitize participants to see Kingdom activity all day every day. God is always at
work, and He will show us His activity and empower us to participate in it if we but ask daily and throughout the day. Both of these tools are available
from any Lifeway Store or can be obtained by calling, 1-800-448-8032.
Two tools that
will help the church to refocus its ministries with a Kingdom focus are The
Kingdom Focused Churchby Gene Mims, and Thy Kingdom Come, which has
been produced by the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Gene's book is available through Lifeway Stores, and Thy Kingdom Come is available from the
South Carolina Convention. Other state conventions are working on similar material to assist churches, and I will share those with you in later articles.
